The Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic

History

Since its foundation in 1992, the orchestra has presented highly varied concerts in Salzburg, its home town, and toured extensively with its artistic director Yoon K. Lee across the globe, from Istanbul to New York, winning critical acclaim from the critics everywhere and earning exuberant applause in such major concert halls as:

The orchestra has also been heard and seen on several live radio and television broadcasts of Austrian National Network (ORF), the Greek radio station, E-3, and MBC TV of Korea.

Recordings

The CD with the symphonies of C.P.E.Bach received among other things five stars in the critique of the ”Classic CD” magazine as well as being the “Editor’s Choice” in the magazine “Gramophone” which praised it as one of the 10 best new CD releases of the year. It also received high recognition from the WQXR FM New York radio station.

Beginning in the 1996/97 season, the complete works for piano and orchestra by W.A. Mozart were performed and recorded with the pianist Cyprien Katsaris in Salzburg (Mozarteum Great Hall), in Vienna (in the Musikverein, where the orchestra was received with great triumph seven times by an audience of 2000 each time) and in Munich (Herkulessaal). This cycle includes 15 CDs, five of which have already been released by the Label Piano 21 amidst great recognition by critics in France and Japan. The recordings will also be available beginning in 2008 as a complete boxed collection.

Salzburg Festival and New York

In the summer of 2000, the orchestra participated in the opera production of “Le Troyens” by Berlioz within the context of the Salzburger Festival, under Maestro Sylvain Cambreling, performing side by side with L´Orchestre de Paris. In the summer of 2001, the orchestra performed again at the Salzburg Festival - this time in the production of “Lady Macbeth of Mzensk” by Shostakovich with the Vienna Philharmonic under Valery Gergiev.

In the spring of 2005, the orchestra gave its triumphant American debut concert as part of the internationally famous concert series of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York.

Mozart Year 2006

In the course of the Mozart Year 2006, the orchestra not only took part in various projects in Salzburg but was invited to various large festivals worldwide in France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Luxembourg and Germany.
